In July 1993 Grant Thorburn began operating as a sole trader in Hamilton concentrating on investigation work. A partnership called Tesla Consultants was formed in March 1994 initially comprising two engineers but it grew quickly. In March 1995 Tesla Consultants incorporated as a company. In these early days Tesla was primarily carrying out substation and protection design and relay settings for the New Zealand national grid company (Transpower) on their 220 kV and 110 kV networks.
Tesla has steadily grown since then by recruiting additional technical specialists and training graduate engineers. We now have employees located in offices in Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch. We provide services to the transmission, distribution and generation sectors of the power industry.
The company remains 100% employee owned and we are particularly proud of the quality of our work and the high levels of value added service we provide to our clients.
