Conceptual and then subsequent detailed design for the installation of a reactor and associated by-pass circuit breaker and surge arrestors on a 110 kV  circuit to prevent overloading during transfer of power south over the HVDC link. A scheme to automatically split the 110 kV system was designed and implemented to prevent a circuit overloading in case key 220 kV circuits tripped.
